Nimde is run by Geolytech in Ghana. This page explains what the Nimde app stores, why, who helps us run it, and how you can delete it. Questions: [email protected].
What we store
- Your account. When you open Nimde you get a guest account. If you add an email address or phone number, we keep it so you can sign in on another phone.
- What you create. Your questions and the answers, translations, quizzes, the text read from documents you scan, items you save to your Library, and ratings or corrections you give. These stay so you can come back to them.
- Usage counts. How many questions, translations, scans and voice minutes you use, for daily limits and plans. For each request we also record timings and sizes, never the words themselves.
What we don't store
- Photos you scan. They are read once and not kept on our servers.
- Your voice. Recordings are turned into text and then discarded.
- Your contacts, location or files you didn't choose to share.
On your phone
Recent conversations and your newest Library items are kept on your phone, encrypted, so you can read them without a connection. Scanned pages stay on your phone. Timers and reminders you set are notifications on your phone.
Helping Nimde improve
This is off unless you turn it on in Profile. When it's on, your chats and translation corrections help improve Nimde's Ghanaian languages, and short phrases you confirm may be added to Nimde's phrasebook, but never anything with numbers, emails or links. Turning it off removes what you shared.
Who helps us run Nimde
- Supabase (Ireland) stores your account and data and handles sign-in.
- OpenAI (United States) writes answers and translations, reads scanned documents and handles speech. We ask it not to keep requests, and its API terms say it does not use them to train its models.
- Contabo (France) hosts our server, which also sends sign-in emails.
- Modal (United States) may process Twi speech recognition when that feature is switched on.
We don't sell your data and we don't show advertising.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it, or delete your account. Deleting a conversation, translation or scan removes it at once. Our backups are kept for seven days, so deleted data disappears from them within a week.
Your choices
- Delete single conversations, translations and scans in the app.
- Delete your account and everything with it in Profile → Delete account and data. See how to delete your account.
- Ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it by writing to [email protected].
These rights come from Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). You can also contact the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
Children
Nimde is meant for people aged 13 and over. Younger children should use it with a parent or teacher.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it applies.
